Now that you are here, it would be safe to assume that you found the first part of our two part series on “Tips for Buying a Car with a Salvage Title” useful, and would like to learn more about how to buy a worthwhile salvage car. In the first part of this two part series, we discussed the first set of fundamentals, and continuing the discussion further, in this post, we list some of the other key factors to consider, when it comes to buying a car with a salvage title.

Request a Vehicle Information Report

A car inspection may not be able to tell you everything about the history of the car you are planning to buy. To get detailed information about the history of the vehicle, ask for a vehicle information report that must contain the following information:

  • The vehicle description (make, model, trim, year)
  • Status of the vehicle
  • Registration details
  • License plate classification (passenger, commercial)
  • Lien information
  • Date and time when the report was generated

Check Shipping Provision and Costs

If you are buying a salvage car through an online auction site, find out if they can ship your vehicle to the desired destination. Salvage Bid, for instance, not only offers nationwide shipping, but can also ship your vehicle to most major ports around the world. Find out whether your seller can ship your buy to your location, and if they can, what would be the cost. In addition, you must also check if there is any paperwork required, for example, the Bill of Sale, Vehicle Title, or Bill of Lading.

Choose a Reliable Seller

Lastly, make sure that you choose a trusted source to buy a salvage vehicle. The options include private sellers, dealerships, and physical and online auctions. Though it is unadvisable to go with a private seller unless you know the person, you may go for dealerships and physical options, but neither of the avenues can provide the kind of variety you can expect from online salvage auto auction portals. Salvage Bid, for instance, lists thousands of vehicles with more options added everyday.
