What is Salvagebid and how does it work?

Salvagebid is your destination to purchase clean and salvage vehicles, available through Insurance Auto Auctions. These vehicle auctions were previously only available to those with a dealer’s license, but now with Salvagebid anyone can bid!

To get started, simply register or log in to place your first bid. To be able to bid you will need to upload a copy of a government issued photo ID. You will also need to place a security deposit of $600, or 10% of your intended bid amount (if it is over $6,000).

How much does it cost to join?

There is no registration fee required to try out Salvagebid with our Guest Membership. We do require a refundable security deposit of $600 minimum to begin bidding. A Guest Membership allows you to make one vehicle purchase of up to $2,500. If you would like to bid over $2,500 or purchase another vehicle, you will need to upgrade your membership. Guest Memberships have transaction fees of 10% with a $299 minimum.

A one year Starter Membership is only $69. You are only able to purchase two vehicles, one at a time, up to $5,000 each with a Starter membership, however you can participate in live bidding and will be provided (1) free vehicle history report provided by ClearVin.

A one year Premium Membership is only $199 and allows you to purchase as many cars as you like during the year. It also provides you with (10) free vehicle history reports and discounted transaction fees.

Our VIP Membership is only $349 and offers higher discounts on transaction fees, as well as (20) ClearVin credits and other benefits.

Your Bidding Limit sets how much you can bid regardless of membership level. Your security deposit is 10% of your Bidding Limit. For example, a $600 security deposit = $6,000 Bidding Limit.

What types of plans does Salvagebid have?

With our free Guest membership, you can bid on items during Preliminary Bidding. You are only able to purchase one vehicle up to $2,500 and your transaction fees will be 10% with a $299 minimum.

With a Starter Membership you can participate in both Preliminary Bidding and Live Auctions, as well as purchase two vehicles up to $5,000 each and your transaction fees will be 9% with a $299 minimum. Starter members get (1) free VIN report from ClearVIN.com.

With a Premium membership there are no bidding or purchase limits, and your transaction fees will be lowered to 6% with a $250 minimum. Premium members also get a dedicated representative to help you through every step of the way and (10) free ClearVIN vehicle history reports.

VIP members get all that and more: 4% transaction fees with a $200 minimum, a 5% shipping discount, and (20) free ClearVIN reports. The one year VIP Membership renews annually.

What is the fee to become a member of Salvagebid?

The Guest Membership is free but has limited features.

The Starter Membership only cost $69 a year and gives your beginner level access to features and live auctions.

The Premium Membership only costs $199 a year, gives you access to live auctions, discounted fees, extra features, and a dedicated representative to help you through every step of the way.

The VIP membership costs $349 a year and comes with the most benefits and lowest transaction fees.

Why do I have to join Salvagebid to buy at IAA?

Many vehicles require specific licenses for the public to be eligible to bid. With Salvagebid – a premier IAA broker – you can bid on and buy all vehicles from IAA, no dealer license required.

What are the requirements to join Salvagebid?

To become a member, you must provide contact information, including a valid email address, and a valid driver's license or a passport if you are an international customer.

Do members need a dealer's license to bid/buy?

No, an automotive dealership license is not needed to bid at Salvagebid. We have met all the legal requirements to sell vehicles through auctions to the general public.

Why do you need a copy of my ID?

We require a copy of your ID for your security and protection. We use your ID to verify the name on the account, and to ensure that all paperwork processed is consistent with the individual who purchased the vehicle. We also must verify that the member is over the age of 18.

We can only accept government-issued photo ID's. This includes a government-issued identification card, driver's license, or passport.

How soon can I start bidding?

You can begin bidding immediately after you become a member of Salvagebid. In order for a bid to be activated, you must place a refundable security deposit of $600, or 10% of the intended maximum bid, whichever one is more, and upload a copy of your ID to your account

Why does my Salvagebid account information have to match my driver's license?

Your Salvagebid account information has to match your Driver's License per DMV regulations on transferring ownership. Without this, we are not able to complete and send you the title.

How do I cancel my membership?

You can cancel your membership at any time in “My Account”. To cancel, go to “Renewal Settings” in “My Account”

Make sure the following selection is checked:

No, I don’t want my membership to be renewed automatically each year. Please cancel my subscription.

Click the “Save Information” button. Your membership renewal will be cancelled, and you'll receive a confirmation email. Membership fees are not refundable.
